Montessori

Diplomat Montessori adheres to the unique educational philosophy set out a century ago by Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori philosophy aims to develop the child’s innate desire to learn by using a child’s natural curiosity and love of knowledge. The child is able to learn and acquire an ‘inner discipline’ free of the need for external reinforcements.

To educate the whole child Dr. Montessori felt the child must have the freedom to learn at his or her own pace and in an individualized manner. The Montessori teachers (Guide) direct the child’s energies into constructive learning channels, taking into account the differences in learning styles and pace. The environment is specially prepared to encourage directed, independent learning. The teachers guide the activity by providing knowledge in the form of presentations. The child is able to learn and acquire an ‘inner discipline’ free of the need for external reinforcements.

The three year period from the ages 3 – 6 is considered to be the most absorbent formative period in a child’s development. Each step of a child’s development and learning from the time he or she enters the Montessori classroom serves as a solid foundation for the next. Each year of the Diplomat Montessori Daycare Montessori program builds on the skills and knowledge acquired in earlier years.

Daycare

As children begin to walk and talk regularly, their curiosity drives them to explore. Our toddler program encourages children’s developing independence by helping them hone self-help skills, such as the abilities to feed themselves, relate to others and make choices. These skills and the opportunity to play and discover empower children to become more confident learners as they investigate new concepts. For instance, when a toddler plays with a shape sorter toy, the child is developing basic problem-solving skills and learning what different shapes look and feel like.

Our classroom provides the perfect transition from our toddler program to our preschool program. Children become more adept at using utensils like spoons, paintbrushes and markers. As they master their fine motor skills, they play with a purpose. When your child picks out a puzzle and tries to put it together, your child is planning and completing a simple project. This helps the child develop feelings of competence and self-esteem, setting the foundation for future learning success. All programs are customized to your child’s progress, needs and age. Pre-School

Perseverance is the ability to overcome obstacles to achieve a goal, which is essential to children’s success in school, career and life. In our preschool classroom, children develop this crucial trait by engaging in play-based learning activities and sticking with them until they solve the problem or complete the project. If children’s solutions to a problem do not work, teachers help the children learn from their efforts and encourage them to keep trying to accomplish the objective.

For example, if a child assembles a building with blocks and the building falls, the teacher might ask questions to help the child figure out why. Was the building too high? Was the foundation wobbly? The teacher encourages the child to think about what went wrong and to try again to create a sturdier building. Children use a variety of interesting, hands-on learning and reading materials to make play more complex and challenging. Their play also becomes more social and cooperative as they build their social skills, make friends and learn to collaborate.

Kindergaten

Our kindergarten program prepares children for success in first grade and beyond. The fun, engaging curriculum allows children to explore and discover their interests while learning academic essentials, empowering them to find happiness in learning. Our teachers focus on project-based learning, which allows children to learn by actively engaging in a task. Diplomat Montessori Daycare teachers also prepare children to meet or exceed state and local education requirements for first grade.
